Easter Sunday Funday

Happy Easter! Today is, while a little chilly, a beautiful and sunny colorado morning. We celebrated Jesus’ Resurrection by reading the Gospel Story with the Resurrection Eggs and the book Benjamin’s Box. If you don’t know what this is, it’s a wonderful, interactive tool to teach children the good news. Junior liked it and with a little prompting, he listened to the whole story all the way through. Yesterday we dyed eggs, and this morning Junior woke up to an indoor easter egg hunt (because the Easter Bunny doesn’t hide anything outside when it’s too cold!) Later today, I will put the ham in the oven and make some deviled eggs, because what is Easter without themed-food. :)

While I have been quiet the last month, our life has been anything but. To keep this short and sweet I will bullet point (because who doesn’t love a good list).

  • Junior is doing good. He is a happy kid for the most part, and we are doing all we can to help him heal from any past trauma he may have experienced. He has a great memory when it is convenient for him and loves riding his bike. Life is fairly routine, which is a good thing. We are right in the middle of spring break and everyday he goes to day camp where they do a ton of super fun stuff. Most days this wears him out, but not all the time. He is about 3 kids in one, which can be fun and exhausting all at the same time, he certainly keeps us on our toes.

  • Parenting is one crazy ride. It took us a few months to get our bearing, but now we have a pretty good handle of things. We are so blessed to have our Agency Case Manager helping us out every week. Between her, Junior’s therapist and his behavioral coach, we are trying to find a system/routine that reaches him. Above all he is learning about coping methods, telling the truth, consequences for making bad choices and making good choices even if someone else makes a bad choice. Through lots of different tools we are finding our way through this parenting thing. Somedays are easier than others. Some days I feel like saying, “No, stop, is that a good choice? What would be a nicer way of saying that? Please don’t do that. Please don’t touch that.” into a recorder and just playing it on a loop. Haha, I am sure many of you can relate.

  • Despite the crazy-ness we are so fulfilled in this role and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It is not as hard as you might think and becoming a foster parent is a wonderful way to spend part of your life. I highly encourage looking into it for yourself. We are so blessed by this experience that we are now open to accepting other placements we might be called for. We do not know what the future holds, but I am sure we will have other children running around here soon.

  • We are so excited to be opening Higher Ground Fellowship soon! We have been praying and waiting on the Lord for two years now to show us where and when to start and now we have a building and start date! I won’t take too much time shamelessly plugging God’s new church, so I will just leave more information for you here, just in case you’re interested!

  • I have several other posts up my sleeve that are more about what the internal journey of this has been for me. You got a peak inside Patrick’s mind with his last post so my thoughts are coming next.

Thank you so much for following along on our journey. Through this I have come upon some great ideas, and have implemented many of them which I plan on sharing so keep your eye open for that!

Talk to you soon!

-Morgan
